Bayu Utomo Radjikin


Bayu Utomo Radjikin (b.1969) hails from Tawau, Sabah, and graduated with a degree in Fine Art from University Technology Mara in 1991. He has been participating in exhibitions since the late eighties and has chalked up participation in over 90 local group exhibitions. He is one of the country’s finest figurative artists.

Early successes in his career include the Major Award at the 1991 Young Contemporaries Competition and Honourable Mentions at the 1994 and 1995 Philip Morris Art Awards. The artist has exhibited widely, including in countries like the USA, Indonesia, UK, Austria, and India.

Bayu is also known as a member of the MATAHATI art collective, Malaysia’s longest running art collective. Face Without Name (Wajah Tak Bernama) is the artist’s ninth solo exhibition to date, and aside from his role as an artist, Bayu is also an arts administrator, helming HOM (House of MATAHATI), an independent art space founded in 2007 by the MATAHATI art collective. Based in Ampang, Bayu oversees HOM’s day-to-day affairs and manages its multiple programmes spanning artist-residencies, competitions, and exhibitions.

His artworks are part of various key private and public collections.
