Reaching Out

Exhibiting Artists: Tran Quoc Tuan

Venue: ION Art Gallery > venue details

Dates: 03 May 2013 - 12 May 2013

The dilemma of urban alienation is brought into sharp focus in Tran Quoc Tuan’s Reaching Out. Drawn from contemporary society, his characters are cocooned in private bubbles that seem averse to human contact despite the close proximity of urban living. This is cleverly emphasized by sequestration in separate architectural spaces within the painting, such as doorways, windows and inner rooms, even division of the larger paintings into separate panels. Dismayed by the lack of communication between rich and poor, young and old, this generation and the next, the series is a plea for us to lift our heads beyond our petty private concerns to reach out and connect with others.
