Happiness Private Limited: Garden of Perennial Delights

Exhibiting Artists: William Sim

Venue: Utterly Art 20B Mosque Street > venue details

Dates: 11 Oct 2013 - 20 Oct 2013

Happiness Private Limited 2013 in its fifth season presents a series of artworks inspired by common ornamental plants found in garden centres within our tropical island. Native, naturalized or feral, these familiar plants are illuminated by the light of a strange sun, displaying unusual concord with eccentric visitors to this habitat.

Garden of Perennial Delights invites keen observers to walk the grounds of its fantasy garden with sharp eyes as the plants divulge secrets of their queer existence only to the watchful fantasist. Be lost but found in the weirdness of familiarity.

Artist

  • William Sim

    Singapore

William started painting under the guidance of pioneer artist Tan Puay Tee at the age of 10. Through his mentorship, William studied colour and form. Over the years he has experimented with various media, but nature as a thematic study has never left his canvas. The worlds William creates find their roots in happiness. The subjects of his paintings are a blend of nature and mechanical objects: they depict, singly and as collectives, dreamscapes where positivity reigns.
