Motherhood - The 2005 Flowerism Collection

Exhibiting Artists: Ye Ruoshi 叶若诗

Venue: Utterly Art 208 South Bridge > venue details

Dates: 01 Dec 2005 - 11 Dec 2005

"Unlike many painters in history... who have celebrated motherhood with literal paintings of a mother and a child, Ruoshi's close affiliation to flowers allows her to explore the philosophy of motherhood through them."

Motherhood presents an emotional collection of flower paintings by Singaporean artist Ye Ruoshi. This exhibition documents the artist's journey of birthing and mothering. As a new mother, Ruoshi has experienced changes in her own body and person, and as an artist, she now creates order and sense of these changes through her paintings.

Motherhood is an extension of her Flowerism series that sees Ruoshi delving deeper into the study of flora. Her studies were so detailed and intimate that Flowerism positioned her as a flower painter par excellence. This exhibition continues in an extravaganza of colors and forms, but instead of seeking out the mysteries of the flowers themselves, Ruoshi seeks to unravel her own mysteries as a new mother, searching for answers through the flowers.
